We will have a snorkeling instructor on hand to show you some basic snorkeling skills and then you will head out to two different snorkeling sites for a guided snorkeling adventures! Great way to learn good snorkeling techniques and become familiar with the ocean environment with an experience snorkeling instructor by your side. You will be more comfortable and confident to continue snorkeling the rest of your holiday. (Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Trip Brochure link for more info).
Bonaire is known as the Caribbean's diving and snorkeling paradise. Located off the coast of Venezuala and next to Aruba and Curaco, Bonaire is a small, Dutch island that is part of the Netherlands. It is best known around the world for the healthy and abundant marine life and was one of the first islands to distinguish its precious reefs as a protected marine park. Weather conditions are very consistent throughout the year and a tradewind sweeps across the island almost relentlessly providing a gentle breeze through the warm days and nights. Water termperature is warm ranging from the high seventies to low eighties fahrenheit.
The diving is about as easy and laid-back as you will find anywhere in the world. Because the reef is only a couple minutes swim off the beach, shore diving and snorkeling is the most popular way to enjoy the underwater world. The road that fringes along the island is lined with yellow-painted rocks that indicate the name of the dive site. Drive onto the beach (made up of dead, broken coral), grab your gear, and go! Diving is 24 hours a day... get up early, sleep in, go for a night dive.... it's all up to you!
Although diving and snorkeling are the most popular activities on the island, there are a lot of other things for people to do and see. There is windsurfing, kayaking, beaches, yachting, birding, and lots of sight-seeing. The Washington-Slagbaai National Park offers a variety of vegetation, animals, and birds inlcuding flamingoes, wild donkeys, and goats. The two main cities are Kralendijk and Rincon and both offer a glimpse into the Bonairian culture. Lots of fantastic and reasonably priced restaurants and grocery stores can be found around every corner.
Perla Boneriano is a small, quiet resort located in the midst of all the popular shore-diving and snorkeling sites. Head north or south and you'll have a tough time deciding which site is your favorite. Within a half block of the resort are lots of retail outlets including a gift shop, liquor store, ice cream shop, bank, fitness centre, massage facility, and lots of restaurants and lounges to relax.
There are seven villas within the resort with a total of only forty beds, ensuring lots of quiet and privacy. Most villas are 2-bedroom villas, some one level and some two levels. The two bedroom villas include two bathrooms located off the bedroom and a small half-bath in the common living area. There is one villa that is one bedroom if you prefer more privacy. The villas are all equipped with fully-functioning kitchens, covered patios, patio furniture including pool lounge chairs, air-condition, TV, free wifi internet, outdoor shower, and gear rinse stations.
The villas surround a swimming pool that is perfect for cooling off after a hot day of diving or for lounging around with a good book.
There is a small, secluded beach located within a five minute walk which has great snorkeling and diving. It's not well known so tends to be quiet and great for relaxing or playing in the sand.
Dive shops are located..... everywhere, making access to air or nitrox tanks a breeze. Rental gear is available as well as technical diving services.
Because the villas are fully furnished with kitchen essentials, eating in is easy to do. Grocery stores are fully stocked with high quality meats, baked goods, canned goods, and fresh fruit & vegetables. There are many restaurant options as well and meals are reasonably priced.
