Description
Learn to scuba dive with the SDI Open Water Diver certification course. There are three parts to the training including pre-study either online or with the textbook, pool and classroom training over one weekend throughout the year, then open water training over two days either on your vacation or during the summer at a local lake. Getting certified with The Dive Outfitters provides you with the most training hours and in-person interaction with your instructor during all phases of learning. Your safety, competence, and confidence in the water is our main focus during all training courses from beginner to advanced. Register with a buddy and pay the buddy special rate.
POOL & CLASSROOM TRAINING DETAILS:
- Above prices are per person and include the SDI Open Water Diver Manual or Online Training Code, IQ Review Questions, workbook, all necessary equipment (except snorkeling gear: mask, snorkel, fins, boots which may be rented for $25 or purchased ahead of time.) Note: minimum age to complete online training is 13 years old.
- Prices do not include transportation, accommodation, meals, etc.
- Open Water training dives must be completed within 6 months of the pool and classroom training.
- Upon registering for a course, you will be entitled to discounts of 10-25% off masks, snorkels, fins, boots, and other gear.
OPEN WATER TRAINING DETAILS:
- Price includes one snorkel dive and four open water scuba dives with an instructor (Jasper or local Alberta lake).
- All scuba equipment is provided except snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots) which may be purchased or rented for $25.
- Price does NOT include the required airfills after diving on Saturday in order to complete the Sunday dives
- Prices do not include transportation, accommodation, meals, etc.
- Please keep in mind that you will be required to haul your dive gear to the dive site for the open water training. This will include two tanks each, a weight belt, and a duffel bag with a wetsuit & other scuba equipment. Please plan your transportation accordingly especially if carpooling.
- Open Water training must be completed within 6 months of pool and class course.
- Complete your four required open water dives with a drysuit for an extra fee, which includes an extra pool session, extra open water dive with the instructor, and use of a rental drysuit (limited sizes available). Upon successful completion, you will receive your Drysuit Specialty Certification. Dry Suit Diving manual not included
Prerequisites for the Open Water Course
- Minimum age for certification is 15 years; Junior Scuba Diver available for ages 12 to 15 (it is STRONGLY recommended to wait until the child is at least 14 years old, here is a great article on "Children & Diving")
- Any students under 18 are considered a Minor and must be accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian) who is also registered and participating in the course
- Students must be physically fit and able to handle the physical and psychological demands of scuba diving independent of an instructor
- Student must fill out the medical form and have signed approval from their doctor when necessary, prior to the start of the course
- Students must be comfortable in the water and will be required to successfully complete a swim test of 200m (any stroke, not timed) as well as a 10 minute survival float. (Training is not permitted to proceed until the swim and float test are satisfactorily completed. If you're unsure of your abilities, head to a local pool and give it a try prior to registering).
Jasper Campsite Bookings
- Please call store for availability of sites prior to booking your open water training dives. (Availability listed here may not be the most up-to-date information)
- Once paid for and confirmed, the campsite reservation will be transferred to the student

- Please consult the Map for Jasper, Whistler's Campground to determine suitability of a campsite prior to booking
Info about the campsites:
- All campsites are pre-booked in Whistler's Campground which is about 5 min drive from Jasper townsite and about 5 min drive from Lake Beauvert (dive site)
- Campsites are for maximum of 3 items. Each of the following are considered 1 item: vehicle, tent, camper, trailer, motorhome. Therefore, 2 tents and a vehicle are considered 3 items. Or a tent, trailer, and a vehicle.
- Most campsites have a fire pit, fire permit and wood are included
- Campsites will accommodate maximum 24-27 ft trailer/motorhome

- Please register with us online, in-store, or over the phone for our regularly scheduled courses held at the Grant MacEwan Pool
- Please refer to our Refund Policy for questions about rescheduling or canceling registration for a course.
- The Buddy Special price is per person and applies only to groups of 2 or more people who register for the same pool & classroom training course. If cancellation or rescheduling results in only one person remaining in a specific course date, the price difference between the Buddy Special and Individual Registration will need to be paid prior to the start of the course.
- Upon registration for the open water portion of the training, students should come to the store to get fitted for their wetsuit, hood, gloves, and BCD. The sooner you reserve your sizes, the less likely you will be disappointed if your size is gone!

If you say YES to any of the questions, please have your doctor fill out and sign page 2 prior to the start of your training.
