Top 5 Reasons You Should Become a Scuba Diver!

The pandemic has taught us that life can change faster than we ever could have ever thought and that we need to make the most of the opportunities we have. Exploring the world around us can bring a new appreciation to our natural environment. Whether it's in our backyard or across the globe, scuba diving is a great underwater adventure!

Top five reasons that you should become a scuba diver!

#1 - Refuel your personal gas tank! Scuba diving gets you moving! It's a fun outdoor activity that will get you some fresh air, good exercise, and a recharge of your inner soul. Our lives have become more sedentary so it's important to schedule in some time to get off the couch and get moving. We are creatures of habit and it's easy to get stuck in a rut of the same thing everyday. You need to switch things up and recharge your soul, even if it's practicing your skills at the pool or attending a video presentation with other divers.

#2 - Earth=71% water. Scuba diving will allow you to experience parts of the world that many people will never get to. Whether it's the warm, salty water of the Caribbean or the clear, glacier lakes of Jasper, there is more to see than most people will have time for in this life! There's always something new and exciting to see and learn when you're underwater.

#3 - Get up close and personal with marine life. Snorkeling is a great way to experience the ocean or lake, but nothing beats getting right up next to the marine life for a personal encounter that you'll never forget. It could be just checking out something small on the reef, or looking a giant manta ray in the eye and wondering what it's thinking. Every place that you discover underwater will bring a whole new list of marine life and creatures to see and learn about. Snorkeling is like looking into an aquarium..... scuba diving is like jumping into the aquarium!

#4 - The quietness and serenity. Put away the cell phone, computer, tablet, whatever. Get some quiet time and some mental "aqua therapy" while you escape the surface world, if only for a short time. The weightlessness that you feel underwater will be felt physically and emotionally.

#5 - It's a great social activity. Whether you show up as a single or with a friend, you will quickly meet a lot of other people with a similar mindset and interest. There is a huge diving community right here in Alberta. Diving is just a small part of your dive day. Always fun getting together between dives and afterwards to brag about all the cool stuff you saw. Whether it's a day trip to a local lake, a weekend trip to Jasper, or something bigger in another country. You will be surrounded by other divers with similar interests that you can connect with.

Lastly, let's face it, having "breathing underwater" as one of your personal superpowers is a good enough reason in itself! So if you're not already a certified diver, or maybe it's been a while since you've gone diving, maybe it's time to take the leap and get into (or back into) scuba diving!
